This alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist effectively treats benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) symptoms by relaxing smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck. Uses SamJones Tamsulosin XL treats symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia including difficulty urinating, weak urine stream, frequent urination, and incomplete bladder emptying. It may also be used off-label to help pass kidney stones by relaxing ureteral smooth muscle. Dosage Patient Group Standard Dosage Maximum Daily Dosage Adult Men 400mcg once daily 400mcg once daily Elderly 400mcg once daily 400mcg once daily Take SamJones Tamsulosin XL approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Swallow whole; do not crush, chew, or open capsules. Duration of Action SamJones Tamsulosin XL begins working within hours of administration, with peak plasma concentrations reached in 4-6 hours. The extended-release formulation provides sustained effects for 24 hours. Significant symptom improvement typically occurs within 2-4 weeks of regular use. Side Effects Common side effects include dizziness, headache, and runny nose. Some patients experience fatigue, back pain, or mild gastrointestinal upset. Orthostatic hypotension may occur, especially when standing quickly. Retrograde ejaculation is possible but usually reversible upon discontinuation.
